Zoning Board Of Appeals

A zoning board of appeals is a local government board that hears and decides appeals and requests for variances from the community’s zoning ordinance

Overview

The ZBA is a seven-member appointed board that hears variances to zoning ordinance provisions and appeals of interpretations of the community planner and building official. The evaluations of variance requests are based on specific criteria set forth in the zoning ordinance and the State of Michigan Zoning Enabling Act.

All regular ZBA meetings are held at the Township Hall, 3040 N. Prospect, at 7:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. If a holiday falls on a second Wednesday, the meeting will be held on the Thursday following the Wednesday of that week. Meetings are canceled if no petitions are filed. Notice of a scheduled meeting is published in the Ann Arbor News, and notices are mailed to property owners within 300 feet of the area of the appeal being heard.
