RECYCLING
Recycle waste and yard waste is picked up every other week on opposite weeks. To view further information and the schedule and map for recycle and yard waste pickup, please click here (PDF). The Township will have two recycling bins located at the Township Hall, 3040 N. Prospect Rd. Ypsilanti 48198 and Fire Station #2, 8975 MacArthur Blvd. Ypsilanti 48198.
Here’s a list of the types of material included in your program:
PLASTIC RECYCLING:
Includes all CLEANED plastic bottles and jars #1 to #7: soft drink bottles, milk jugs, detergent bottles, FLATTENED cartons, etc. Check the bottom of the container. If you see the recycling symbol with a #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 in the center, it is acceptable.
METAL RECYCLING:
Includes aluminum cans, pie and baking pans, tin cans, steel food containers, EMPTY aerosol cans, and lids. Metal beverage cans, baking tins, foil, and food containers are also included in this material category.
All items must be CLEAN OF FOOD.
CARDBOARD RECYCLING:
Includes corrugated cardboard, shipping boxes, cereal and dry food boxes, shoe boxes, tissue boxes, moving boxes, detergent boxes, soda/beer cartons, paper towel/toilet tissue rolls, and paperboard cans.
All boxes MUST BE FLATTENED for proper disposal.
PAPER RECYCLING:
Includes newspapers, inserts, labels, magazines, catalogs, paperback books, manila folders, letterhead, notebook paper (no backings), computer paper, envelopes (with windows), coupon books, index cards, calendars, and brown paper bags.
GLASS RECYCLING:
Bottles and jars – lids must be REMOVED and separated, and the item must be CLEANED of all food and liquid waste before being placed inside the container.
YARD WASTE PROGRAM
Compost (yard waste) service is available only from the first full week in April through the second full week in December. Click on the GFL Calendar and Pickup Map. Christmas Trees will be picked up through the first week of January. Residents may use kraft-style paper yard waste bags or regular trash cans that are marked “YARD WASTE.” Both cans and bags may not exceed 32-gallons in size and 50 lbs. in weight. No plastic bags will be accepted. Twigs, brush and shrubbery must be tied in bunches not more than three feet in length and not more than 24 inches in diameter per bundle.
