BirdSong Nature Preserve Expands by 162 Acres

Superior Charter Township is pleased to announce that on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Township completed the purchase of 162 acres from the Michigan Land Conservancy to expand BirdSong Nature Preserve.

The purchase was fully funded through grants from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, Ducks Unlimited, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the City of Ann Arbor’s Greenbelt Program. The property will be permanently protected as a public nature preserve.

Located immediately south of Cherry Hill Nature Preserve, the property includes a diverse mix of forests, wetlands, farmland, and grasslands. These varied habitats support a wide range of wildlife and are particularly attractive to numerous bird species.

To date, 184 bird species have been identified at BirdSong Nature Preserve, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts throughout the region.

The addition of these 162 acres expands the preserve’s protected lands and enhances its value as both a haven for wildlife and a place for the public to enjoy nature. Superior Charter Township is delighted that this long-awaited land protection purchase is now complete.
