Ken Schwartz was born in Michigan in 1952. He was raised and educated in suburban Detroit graduating in 1970 from Cherry Hill High School in Inkster. After high school Ken went to work at a photographic dye transfer company in Detroit. In 1971 he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed primarily at an Arizona fighter pilot training base, the 56th Tactical Fighter Wing at Luke AFB. Ken served as a member of the hospital squadron for over three years until being honorably discharged in 1975. In keeping with his concern for veteran’s health and welfare, Ken is a founding member of the Washtenaw County Veterans Affairs Commission being elected chairman in 2012.
After leaving the service and Arizona he returned to Michigan for his education.
Ken began his college education by taking night classes at Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona and Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn; thereafter, transferring to the University of Michigan in 1976. At Michigan Ken studied philosophy, history and political science. Like many liberal arts students he applied to law school. In January 1982 he began his life as a law student at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. After passing the bar examination in 1985 Ken embarked upon a 30 year successful practice in of law in Ypsilanti.
Along the way Ken was elected and appointed to many offices including Washtenaw County Road Commission, Washtenaw County Commissioner, Superior Township Trustee and is currently serving as the Superior Township Supervisor. He was appointed Supervisor in 2013, elected in 2014, re-elected in 2016 and 2020.
His main concern is to meet the ongoing demands of township government in collaboration with the Superior Township Board of Trustees. Ken’s vision is to provide a framework moving forward in Superior Township by encouraging and managing selected land for development and growth, while keeping money in the bank, the debt reasonable and preserving the financial assets for the long run.
Ken knows that providing excellent township services like safe drinking water, good roads, responsive fire and police services and eliminating blight will increase the value of every home so that Superior residents can confidently invest in their own homes and neighborhoods. Ken wants you to know that as Superior Township Supervisor he will do his utmost to protect every asset, public and private.
