Re: Trash, Recycle and Yard Waste pickup

Most residents have learned from news accounts or from the Superior Township Website that GFL, Green for Life, the contractor that has serviced Superior Township for solid waste, recycle and yard waste for the last 18 months sold their assets to Priority Waste from Romulus, Michigan on July 1st.

Priority Waste stepped into the shoes of GFL last Monday July 1st. According to Paul Ruthenberg of Priority Waste, GFL delivered garbage trucks to Priority that were not suitably equipped for solid waste or recycle service. As a result, Priority states that most of the trucks had to be serviced before going on the road which set Priority Waste behind one week. The 4th of July holiday also caused some disruptions in service.

Priority began to service Superior Township on July 1st. Priority got off to a slow start due to the mechanical issues and the holiday, but claim to Superior that all solid waste will service by the end of the week, Saturday July 13th. So, I urge you to keep your carts at the curb until they are serviced and if they are not serviced by Saturday, please email me at kenschwartz@superior-twp.org

I sympathize with everyone that has garbage sitting in their cart for over a week, and in some cases longer, due to GFL not living up to their contract with the township and the customer. If you have solid waste that must be tossed immediately you can use the dumpsters at the Township offices or at fire station number 2 at MacArthur and Harris. Please limit your deposit to the minimum necessary.

I will update this post tomorrow with additional information. There is a special meeting of the Board of Trustees tonight, Tuesday July 9th at 5pm at the township offices, to discuss the transition with Priority and to motivate them to get back on schedule and keep them on schedule from this time forward.
